.......SACRAMENTO Chancellor Mark Drummond met with community college student newspaper staff at a statewide press conference on Friday, March 5th . Sixteen colleges throughout the state officially hosted the live interactive video conference with student reporters from neighboring schools invited to participate at each host site. The event is purportedly the first of its kind for the system.

........The press conference was an exclusive opportunity for community college newspaper staff to interview Chancellor Drummond, who succeeded Thomas J. Nussbaum in January as chief executive of the California Community Colleges, the largest system of higher education in the world with 108 colleges and 72 districts serving over 2.8 million students during the previous academic year. Throughout the year, the Chancellor's Office receives numerous requests from reporters to interview the Chancellor on a wide range of topics, including budget issues, proposed enrollment fee increases, dual enrollment for UC and CSU students, access for underrepresented and nontraditional college students, support for public university outreach programs, the role of the community colleges in the state's economic recovery, and the Chancellor's personal vision for the system. With the press conference taking place only days after the March 2 primary and bond election, questions were raised about the impact on community colleges. However, there was no specific agenda and reporters were welcome to ask what questions they like of Chancellor Drummond.
