Asthma in Children ­ A Case Management Approach
Speaker: Jefferey Byrne, Asthma Program Director, St. John's Hospital, Yonkers, NY
After countless asthmatic children were rushed to its emergency room, St. John's Riverside Hospital collaborated with the Yonkers schools to form a partnership to improve asthma care within the schools. The service empowers school nurses to provide clinical treatment onsite for students experiencing asthma episodes. The result has been fewer emergency calls, reduced absenteeism and improved safety.

Crisis and Emergency Risk Communication
This program provides clear guidelines for communicating in high risk situations. Topics include: the best way to communicate with public officials, how to protect people and keep panic at a minimum and how to communicate with law enforcement.

Tobacco use remains the leading cause of preventable death in the United States. This program will increase awareness of the value and the process involved in utilizing evidence based resources to prevent and control the use of tobacco.

Latino/Hispanic 101: Overcoming Barriers and Increasing Understanding
This program will address some of the basic differences between the American and the Hispanic cultures; an overview of Hispanic health beliefs and practices, as well as some of the health and social problems prevalent in this population.
