The benefits of an integrated approach will be demonstrated through discussions with community stakeholders and highlights from selected interventions from the four Steps to Healthier NY communities.

This broadcast will cover the four major causes of vision loss: Cartaract, Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma and Diabetic Retinopathy and how they affect vision.  Also included are discussions of communication courtesy, home safety issues, isolation prevention, adaptive devices and community resources.

The Triply Diagnosed Patient: HIV, Mental Health & Substance Use
This broadcast discusses treatment issues of patients who have a triple diagnosis of HIV, substance use and mental illness. Focuses include: the difference between patients who become HIV infected as a result of mental illness versus those who develop mental illness secondary to their HIV diagnosis; review of the major mental health diagnoses seen among patients infected with HIV; outline the different models of mental health care in correctional settings; review of the mechanisms for recognition of Depression and common treatment options; and a review of how drug addiction impacts mental health, HIV disease and their treatments.

New Developments in HIV/Hepatitis C Co-Infection
This program addresses the synergism of HIV and Hepatitis C co-infection; the transmission and epidemiology of who is at risk; unique diagnostic tests; and the complexity of therapy.

Bipolar Disorder: Management of Pharmacological and Non-Pharmacological Challenges in Correction
This program explores evidence-based treatments for manic episodes including the extent of improvement that can be expected from single treatments, a rational treatment strategy for mania; aspects of manic episodes that selectively predict responses to treatments; and pharmacological and non-pharmacological obstacles to treatment in the correctional setting.

Heart Disease: The Number One Health Problem for Women
This event covers topics such as: what is coronary artery disease (CAD); diagnosis; outcomes of angioplasty and surgery in women; management of heart attack in women; and medical therapies. Objectives include: to review new information regarding estrogen replacement and risk of CHD and stroke in women; to review coronary artery disease in women including the different presentation symptoms and the various responses to therapy.
