This 15-part series teaches the writing, reporting, editing and communicating of information in the public interest. More than 100 journalists working in print, radio and television reveal the secrets of their trade including Bob Woodward, Helen Thomas, Dave Barry and Linda Ellerbee. Coverage of policy issues sheds light on journalism history, law and ethics.

Episode 15 - Media Law
Focuses on reporters' rights and defenses for potential libel or invasion of privacy lawsuits as well as concepts like open meeting, shield, and freedom of information laws. In addition, Mark Goodman, attorney for the Student Press Law Center, and author John Zelezny discuss legal issues that may confront students working for a school newspaper or other publication.

A Midsummer Night's Dream
Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream as staged by City College of San Francisco. Directed by Adjunct Faculty member Dr. John Wilk with a cast of City College students. Broadcast Electronic Media Arts students, under the direction of BEMA Adjunct Faculty member Michele Sieglitz, served as crew. Post production was by BMS editor Susan Boeckmann; the executive producer, BEMA Faculty member John Odell. "This is must-see TV," says Odell. "The colorful characters, costumes, sets, music, and multimedia show all promise viewers a very entertaining experience."

Scene Smoking Cigarettes, Cinema and the Myth of Cool
From fashion styles to music trends, young people often emulate celebrity behavior that they see on-screen, including the use of tobacco. Recent studies have found that films depicting tobacco use are increasing and are reinforcing misleading perceptions that smoking is a widespread, socially desirable, and normal behavior. In Scene Smoking, professionals from the entertainment and health fields discuss real-life choices they've made and what they think about the depiction of tobacco on-screen.
