Perry and Wallace will address the impact of an influenza pandemic on public health organizations and communities at the state, federal and international levels, and how to begin planning responses.

Presented by: Massachusetts General Hospital
Topics of discussion include: identifying functional and neuroanatomical correlates of attention, executive function and integrative processing of memory, emotion and cognition; elucidating the role of cognitive function and potential therapeutic interventions in affective illness, ADHD and autistic spectrum disorders and psychosis; and describing a potential rationale for the use of multi-modal therapeutic interventions including pharmacologic agents that may affect cognition.

Given the current media hype about African-American men living on the down low (men who secretly have sex with men while also having sex with women), Dr. Malebranche and Dr. Wheeler will discuss the relevance of this topic - its myths, misconceptions, and implications for interventions and the HIV epidemic in the Black Community.

Presented by: Massachusetts General Hospital
This program will describe the clinical approach to the new prescribing guidelines for the use of anitdepressant and antipsychotic compounds, discuss the methodological basis for assessing the relative role of the placebo response in evaluating the efficacy of psychotropic medication treatment and clinical trial study data, identify the relative attributes of SNRIs vs. SSRIs, elucidate the role of atypical antipsychotics and anticonvulsant mood stabilizers in the treatment of affective illness as compared to traditional adjunctive medication strategies.

This program will discuss the treatment guidelines for hyperphosphatemia and the role it plays in chronic kidney disease, the review National Kidney Foundation K/DOQI Clinical Practice Guidelines for Bone Metabolism and Disease and Chronic Kidney Disease target goals, and identify and discuss new treatment options using lanthanum carbonate and cinacalcet.

Topics of this program include: effects of attentional deficits, impulsivity, and hyperactivity on difficulties encountered in school and in the workplace; comparing and contrasting existing and novel agents for the treatment of ADHD; and designing a treatment plan that incorporates nonpharmacological and pharmacological strategies to improve patient outcomes.
