If you talk to businesspeople they will tell you – “Today all business is international.” Businesses want students that understand different cultures, know practical information about trade and think critically about the globalized world we live in.
Because of our close ties to the business community and our emphasis on practical training, community colleges are in a unique position to prepare students for today’s global business realities. There are exciting developments in international trade education that are revolutionizing International Business education. This satellite videoconference shares these important “best practices” from a “who’s who” of successful International Business Community College Programs. The conference shows how to develop effective international business curricula, develop successful international business programs and develop faculty competence in international trade.
The two-hour program will provide an overview of Curriculum Development, Program Development, and Faculty Development. Topics include:
- Infusing international business content into existing curriculum
- Developing new international business courses
- Developing on-line International Business courses.
- Obtaining information about U.S. Department of Education;, Business and International Education: Title VI-B grant opportunities
- Studying and traveling abroad for faculty and students

How it Works
Colleges must first register and pay the discounted license fees to receive/participate in the program.
Over 100 colleges enroll for these programs. Often facilitators set up a viewing room and announce well in advance where faculty, staff and administrators can gather, view the program, comment together, and then discuss as a group how the program’s ideas might inspire appropriate new initiatives in their college or district. Many colleges now use these programs as a college-wide annual event (especially in association with International Education Week!), apply participation to faculty development credits, and in order to stimulate new international development initiatives.
How to Participate?
Each host site is encouraged to invite staff, faculty, students and local businesses or community groups to attend. Participants are strongly encouraged to phone, fax or email (ccid@kirkwood.edu) their questions at any time during the program. Please be advised that there will not be a live feed of questions into the studio. Our assistants will take your questions via phone, fax, or email and forward them to the panelists to answer. The viewing room selected for the videoconference should include appropriate video monitors and a phone, fax machine or Internet-connected computer station for sending in questions.
