California Community College Satellite (CCCSAT) Network Announces the Call For Entries: 2nd Annual Student Film And Video Festival
California Community College faculty and students are encouraged to submit their best student produced work to compete for top prizes in the 2 nd Annual Student Film and Video Festival. CCCSAT will recognize and reward students for achievements in video, film, broadcasting and animation.
Entries must be postmarked no later than January 31, 2007 and submitted to CCCSAT with the official entry form. Winners of the 2 nd Annual Student Film and Video Festival will air on the CCC Arts Hour in late April 2007 exclusively on the California Community Colleges Satellite Network live webcast.
Entry categories include: News, News Packages, Feature/Magazine, Sports, Documentary/Interview, Short Film, Commercials/Promos/PSAs, Music/Variety/Specialty and 3D Graphics or Animation.
This years festival sponsorship partners will be providing prizes for the winning student entries. All first place winners will receive the academic version of Avid Express Pro editing software. Additionally, Panavision will award the first place winner in the Short Film category a four week 16mm film rental package. The Best of Show winner will receive an editing software package from Avid, sound effects from Hollywood Edge and production elements form Network Music. First, Second and Third place winners will be awarded a certificate and a plaque for their colleges.

Call For Entries: 2nd Annual Student Film And Video Festival
Official Rules Presented By CCCSAT
Purpose: To encourage and reward students for achievements in video, film and broadcasting. Winning entries will be aired on the California Community Colleges Satellite Network and live webcast. Winners will receive industry standard products and services to further their education.
Eligibility: All entries must be student produced. Any student-produced entry completed in fulfillment of California Community College course credit is eligible for competition. Faculty may only act in an advisory capacity.
Deadlines: The deadline for entries is Wednesday, January 31, 2007. All entries must be submitted or postmarked on or before the deadline date in order qualify, unless an extension has been requested and granted by CCCSAT.
Fees: The film and video festival is free to all California Community College students.
Submission of entries: Entries must be mailed, shipped or delivered for judging to the address as listed on the official entry form. All entries must include this official entry form for the appropriate awards division. Entry forms may be downloaded from the CCCSAT website www.cccsat.org .
Awards: All first, second and third place winners will receive a certificate as well as a plaque for their college. All first place student winners will receive an Avid Express Pro Academic Version editing software package. Additionally, Panavision will award the winner of the Short Film Category will also receive a 4-Week Film Camera Rental Package. Best in Show will receive an Editor from Avid, Production Elements for Network Music and a Sound Effects Package from Hollywood Edge. All awards will be mailed to the college submitting the entries.
Judging: All entries will be judged by a team of media professionals, faculty, staff and student peers. Entries will be judged based on technical quality and content. The judges have the authority to determine that no entry is suitable as a winner in any category. Entries will not be judged for their length, but we do not guarantee that productions will be viewed in their entirety. Therefore, it is appropriate, and students are encouraged, to include a shot sheet with specific viewing suggestions for the judges. Finalists and winners will be announced in April 2007. Winning entries and selected finalists will air on CCCSAT in the CCC Arts Hour in April 2007.
Entry Guidelines
All rules are determined by CCCSAT and the CCCSAT Regional Programming Centers. Rules may be amended by CCCSAT and the CCCSAT Regional Programming Centers at any time. CCCSAT is the final authority on all matters involving the contest. The contest is open to all California Community Colleges campus television and film facilities and other student media outlets. Failure to follow the procedures below can result in disqualification.
1. Each entry must be submitted with the correct entry form. Entry forms must be completed in their entirety. Entry forms must be typed or word processed or printed legibly.
2. Each entry must by submitted on VHS video recorded at standard play or DVD. TAPES AND DVDs WILL NOT BE RETURNED.
3. A separate tape or DVD must be submitted for each entry. Each tape or DVD must be labeled to how the name of the school; competition category; title of the entry; and the length of the entry.
4. All entries must be cued to the beginning of each tape.
5. Programs may not be entered in more than one category. Send high quality dubs for entry tapes. D O NOT SEND MASTER TAPES! Entry tapes will not be returned.
6. Each entry may include for the judges one page of typewritten supplemental data. This one page of supplemental material may include but is not limited to a summary of the entry, the goals achieved, and the quantity and quality of audience feedback received. This one page of supplemental material is optional, not required.
7. Entries are to be original work by students (totally student-produced) for a campus media outlet or college credit courses. This work can not be done for professional broadcasting stations or related organizations. All entries must be submitted as originally broadcast and/or produced for a class between January 1, 2006, and December 31, 2006.
8. Entries must be accompanied by signed Entry Form. Entrants must have in their possession, evidence of copyright permission for any material not covered by a campus institutional agreement with ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, or other licensing organization, to be available upon request. Programs produced with significant resources outside of the student community are not acceptable. CCCSAT is not responsible for any misuse of copyrighted or licensed materials.
9. The official entry form or a photocopy of this form must be used. An entry form is to be returned with each entry.
10. The readability of the DVD is the responsibility of the entrant.
The following guidelines shall apply:
a. DVD-R Format (DVD Minus-R).
b. DVDs must be finalized and “compatibility tested” on a different DVD player than the one used to burn entry.
c. Printed DVD labels (paper labels) are not suggested; instead use a permanent marker to print the required information on the disk. Ink jet or laser printing that can be applied directly to the DVD face is also acceptable.
d. One entry per DVD!
