2nd Annual Student Film and Video Festival


After months of anticipation, the winners of the 2nd Annual Student Film and Video Festival, presented by 3C Media Solutions (formerly known as CCCSAT) will be announced on Friday, May 4 starting at 10 a.m.  The LIVE awards program will premiere on 3C Media Solutions/CCCSAT network and simultaneously webcast at www.cccsat.org.   

The contest, which was open to all California Community Colleges students, received 174 entries from 26 of the 109 community colleges; participation in the contest more than tripled this year.  The nine contest categories include: News Programs; News Packages; Features and Magazines; Sports; Documentaries and Interviews; Commercials, Promos and PSAs; Music, Variety and Specialty; Animation and Graphics; and Short Film.  In addition, the entry receiving the highest points will be awarded“Best of Show” recognition. A panel consisting of both faculty and students served as judges for the event.  The first place winners in each category will receive an Avid Media Composer software.  The winner of the Short Film category will win a four-week 16 mm rental package from Panavision, and the entry for Show will receive a software editing package from Avid along with production elements from Killer Tracks and a sound effects package from Hollywood Edge.

Brian Gott earned the best of show honors for his entry One Night Forever in the Short Film category as well as a first place award in the same category. Gott is from Modesto College.

The winners in the nine categories are as follows:

News Programs:
Benjamin Cruz, 2nd Place for Newscene.

Randy Hampton, 3rd Place for North County News.

There was no first place award or Honorable Mentions given in this category.

News Packages:
Austin Hill, 2nd Place for Sign Spinners.

Chella Donnelly, 3rd Place for Tattoo.

There was no first place awarded in this category.

Honorable Mention awards were given to the following students:
Troy Clarke for US Iranian Relations, from Riverside Community           College; Karyn Bower for Choc Baby Malakai, from Saddleback            College; Tonya Lehman for Water Conservation Garden, from            Grossmont College, Virginia Kennedy for Credit Cards; from            Palomar College, Robert Winsmann for Medieval Knights; and            Barbara J. Graham for Reel Job 2006 from Gavilan College.
             
Feature/Magazine:
Tony Sanchez, 2nd Place for Newscene En Espanol from San Diego City College.

Joseph Mendonca, 3rd Place for Tenth Planet from Modesto Jr. College.

There was no first place winner awarded in the Feature/Magazine category.

Honorable Mention awards were given to the following students:
J. Baker for Women in Entertainment from Riverside Community College;
Jonathan Bunke for Safety & Security on Campus at Los Rios Community College;  Chad Pickrel for North American Wrestling from Modesto Jr. College; and Chet Heine for Recycling Protecting the Environment from Modesto Jr. College.

Sports:
In the Sports category, no awards were given.

Documentary/Interview:
Kigh Sturdevan and Nate Brown, 1st Place for 50 Plus Balance & Mobility for a Fall Proof Life from Mira Costa College.

Michael Anthony Dunston, 2nd Place for Composed by Anonymous from
Berkeley City College.

David Simon, 3rd Place for Energy from Foothill College.

With the success of this contest in the can, plans are already underway for the 3rd Annual CCCSAT Student Film & Video Festival.  The details for next year’s contest will be available on the 3C Media Solutions (formerly known as CCCSAT) website, www.cccsat.org.
