He is currently an economic consultant on projects in Bahrain, Egypt, Oman, and Saudi Arabia. He has worked for the International Monetary Fund Middle East Department and also as Chief Economist for Riyadh Bank, Riyadh Saudi Arabia.)

(Dr. Roger Ransom is Distinguished Professor of History and Economics at the University of California, Riverside. The title of this talk is the title of his latest book. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Washington. He is the author of six books and many articles. He has been President of the Economic History Association and has won numerous awards. His book, One Kind of Freedom: The Economic Consequences of Emancipation was selected as the best book of the year in North American History.)

His main interests are Critical Theory, Applied Ethics, and Critical Thinking. Dr. Kathy Grove is Assistant Professor of Sociology at Palomar College. She has her Ph.D. in Sociology and is the author of a book “Building Bridges” as well as several articles on women and HIV/AIDS. She has been nominated for the Distinguished Research Award and the Distinguished Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching at Palomar.)
