A decade ago, MIT OpenCourseware ignited an open education revolution sharing lectures and course syllabi online and thousands of colleges and universities worldwide joined. Fast-forward to 2011, 160,000enroll in an open Artificial Intelligence course at Stanford with online exams,interactive discussions, and completion certificates. A new model of open online education with credentialing for a modest fee is emerging. The Undersecretary of Education recommends these alternative ways to credential students so employers can accurately evaluate job skills.
