Description

"Gain Insight into Today's Workforce Needs through a Paid, Relevant, Rich, Revitalizing, Summer Fellowship"

Shari Liss
Education Director
Industry Initiatives for Science and Math Education (IISME)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Experience the applications of ICT in today's workforce and earn $8,200 through an IISME Summer Fellowship. By working at one of IISME's Host organizations, such as Adobe, NetApp, UC Berkeley or Autodesk, teachers are able to experience the practical applications of the subjects they teach. The experience becomes a springboard for infusing curriculum with "real world" connections that further engage students in learning while reenergizing teachers' enthusiasm and commitment to teaching.

Teachers will receive an overview of the IISME Summer Fellowship Program. They will also hear how a high school art/animation teacher and a middle school industrial arts teacher have integrated their experiences in to their instruction and how they are leveraging their industry relationships to better prepare students for today's careers.

Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and share other ideas for ways they have for preparing students for today's workforce. Industry Initiatives for Science and Math Education (IISME) is a nonprofit organization that provides research and industry-based professional development opportunities for K-16 teachers in 8 San Francisco Bay Area counties.

Teachers engage in an 8-week, summer research or industry Fellowship with organizations such as Stanford University, Lockheed Martin and Intel where they experience the application of science, math and technology skills in the current workplace.

This presentation will engage participants through small group and whole group discussions.
