Description

"Making SLO Progress: Where and How to Integrate Cloud Computing into Your College's ICT Curriculum"

Markus Geissler
Professor, Computer Information Science
Cosumnes River College

As Cloud Computing becomes more pervasive, selecting the appropriate Cloud infrastructure (public vs. private vs. virtual private Cloud storage, SaaS applications, Cloud-based backup, etc.) and properly implementing and supporting Cloud technologies, including the transition of existing data, applications and hardware, will increasingly become a responsibility of ICT professionals. This discussion session seeks to develop curricular strategies for where and how to "teach the Cloud".

The academic community, in collaboration with its industry partners, needs to define the requisite skill sets for both ICT professionals and ICT users and integrate them into our curriculum. After the facilitator provides a brief overview of the various Cloud technologies, attendees are encouraged to share ideas on where and how they plan to integrate Cloud-
related topics and technologies into their courses and programs.

The discussion will evaluate the need for either developing new curriculum or modify existing curriculum for both ICT professionals and users. The desired outcome is a collection of Cloud-related student learning outcomes (SLOs) toward which curriculum blocks can be built.
