AI in Higher Ed
In this session, I will explore the implications of AI in education, focusing on the impact of regulating AI technologies. Topics include the risk of exacerbating the digital divide by banning AI chatbots and the potential for creating discriminatory learning experiences by prohibiting technology use during exams. We will also discuss the limitations of AI text detectors, which are not intended to catch student cheating, and the need for redesigning academic integrity statements to better align with current technology use in education. Additionally, the presentation will highlight the importance of providing students with opportunities to learn with and about AI. We will explore how redesigning assignments can effectively reduce cheating and foster a more honest academic environment. Each topic will be addressed with detailed insights and strategies to help educators effectively integrate AI into their teaching practices.
