This lecture/lab course introduces functions and features of the UNIX/Linux operating system,including origin and evolution;hardware and software; both command-line and graphical user interface;files and file system structure;system services;processes,background processing, Scheduling,file secutiry,the vi editor:file sharing and redirection and piping. Students are also introduced to shell programming and a variety of UNIX/Linux command-line and graphical tools.
