Accessibility UDL Series, Session 2: PowerPoint with Purpose - Accessible Slides Using the SMC Template

This session focused on creating accessible PowerPoint slides using the SMC PowerPoint template as a flexible starting point. Faculty learned how to use the template in ways that support accessibility while still allowing for creativity, customization, and discipline-specific design. Topics included slide structure, built-in layouts, unique slide titles, logical reading order, alt text for images and charts, color contrast, font readability, uncluttered slide design, and accessible exporting or sharing options. Faculty were encouraged to bring one slide deck or be prepared to create/revise 3–5 slides using the SMC template during the supported work time. Participants left with a revised slide deck or starter deck that uses the SMC template accessibly, along with an Accessible PowerPoint Checklist + SMC Template Tips resource. This session is appropriate for all faculty. No prior accessibility experience is required.
